Vaezi Discusses Post-Sanctions Era with Russian Agriculture Minister

The Communication and Information Technology Minister expressed in his meeting with the Agricultural Minister of the Russian Federation, that: “Since Russia was our partner during the sanctions area, this relationship will further expand and develop under the present conditions.”

According to ICT Ministry’s Public Relation, The Minister of Communication and Information Technology discussed progress and development of Iran-Russia bilateral cooperation with Alexander Nikolayevich Tkachyov, the Russian Minister for Agriculture, stating that: “Since all sanctions against Iran have been removed, we want to thank Russia’s efforts and interaction in P5+1 negotiation.”

Dr. Vaezi referred to Post-Sanctions conditions in Iran, emphasizing that: “We are going to make the best use of this new situation, and since Russia was our partner during the sanctions era, it will not be forgotten during the new situation and its share of the Iranian market shall not decrease.”

Head of the Iran-Russia Joint Economic Commission included that: “The relationship between Iran and Russia is a strategic one and we are not going to let the new developments to have a negative effect on the expansion of relations between two countries; this friendly relationship must be safeguarded, since if the trust between the officials of the two countries is lost, then it will be very difficult to restore it.”

Vaezi went on to say: “Now we are faced with a positive atmosphere, and tariffs are noticeably lower; import and export permits are being issued to the private sector through a better and simpler system compared to the past, to enable us to witness an increase in economic relations of our two countries.”

The ICT Minister included that: “We truly have to support the private sector; a support that has been embedded in our bilateral relations by being stressed on in the document we have signed with Russian representatives in the past; now the traders and investors of both nations can go about expanding their economic ties at their convenience, backed by this document and the support of both governments.”

Stating that Turkey’s market has no place in Russia, he said: “Considering what has occurred, now is the perfect time for Iran to replace Turkey in Russia’s market.”

The Agricultural Minister of the Russian Federation also stated at this meeting that: “Iran and Russia have similar economic environments, but unfortunately Russia was not considerate enough in the past regarding the Iranian market, the major reason being the past issues.”

Nikolayevich Tkachyov also asked for the doubling of the existing trade volume between two countries, expressing that: “The problems and difficulties of the private sector must be quickly addressed.”

It is expected that by the implementation of the nuclear agreement and the cancellation of the sanctions, the trade level between Iran and Russia continues to develop with no intermediary.
